Thunderbird Lodge Wedding

Jessica and Matthew got married at the Thunderbird Lodge on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe. As you can see, this historic venue showcases the natural elegance and beauty of Lake Tahoe. It is also where their relationship began, they got engaged, and have so many fond memories. With guests coming from all over to attend the wedding, this was a perfect way to share their experience and a place they love with everyone. From the time the guests were shuttled to Thunderbird Lodge via boats across the lake, to the ceremony on the shore and reception outdoors as the evening cooled off- everyone was surrounded by the pristine beauty of Tahoe and got to see some of the magic that makes it a special place.

Mayacama Wedding

I'm thrilled to share some photos from Jenny and Brian's wedding at Mayacama! I loved working with them! Every part of their day was beautiful, but it was during Jenny's dad's speech- when everyone was tearing up, myself included- that I saw a new perspective on weddings from a parent's point of view. You put so much into raising your kids and then you blink, and they are all grown up and you're at their wedding. Seeing them so in love, excited, happy, full of potential, and fulfilled, like an extension of yourself- but fully their own; you're flooded with memories, surrounded by the village that helped make it possible, you raise a glass to toast the newlyweds, beaming with a pride only the other parents fully understand. Thanks Jenny and Brian for letting me be a part of your lives. Check out their video by my friends at Uforia Films - it's epic and captures their story so perfectly.

Head over to Style Me Pretty to see the feature on their Rustic Northern California Wedding too.

A Simple Arrangement

I went to the flower market in SF today with some friends and decided that I should buy some flowers for my wife. I wanted it to be simple and a little wild. I loved seeing all of the raw ingredients in all of the different buckets- ingredients that I've seen in finished arrangements at weddings week in and week out. It was like the going to the grocery store for the first time and thinking - yeah, I can cook something all by myself. There were a lot of options to pick from and Genevieve (La Fleur du Jour) helped suggest options that would fit the arrangement I wanted to make. I mostly based my selections on color and texture. I wanted it to be all white and green- simple, but rich in texture. A bunch of this and a bunch of those until I had an armload of flowers. I also picked up a simple metal vase. It was pretty fun to try and get it to work! Here are some photos of what I got and the process. In the end, it made me really appreciate the craft and skill that good florists have. Knowing what to buy, how to arrange and layer everything, transport the arrangements to a venue, and on and on. It's like when you see a professional athlete and they make it look so easy- they've put in the time to perfect their craft. Here are some of my favorite florists- they make it look effortless and amazing at the same time- Max GillSaipua, Flowerwild, Ariella Chezar, and Sarah Winward.

Dreaming of Winter Weddings

Even though it doesn't snow in San Francisco, I love the idea of all of these snowy winter weddings happening places where it does. Here is a favorite wedding portrait  shot up in Seattle a few years ago. What could be more romantic than wedding photos in the snow?
